The brand does not change the price
People ask this before booking more often than you would think, usually because they have found a brand name on the grille and want to know if it is a problem. It is not. Pricing is set by how many fans you have, not by whose badge is on them.
What the brand does change is how the unit comes apart and how much of it there is to reach. That is our problem to work out on the day, not something you need to look up first.
Surface-mounted ceiling and wall fans: HPM, Clipsal Airflow, Heller, Mistral
This is what is in most Darwin bathrooms and laundries. The unit sits in the ceiling or the wall behind a grille or a fascia, with the fan directly behind it. HPM and Clipsal Airflow units are the ones we see most, with Heller and Mistral close behind.
On these the cover comes off, the cover and blades and the housing behind them get cleaned, the lint comes out, and the cover goes back on. It is the quickest thing we do, which is why one exhaust fan is free with any ceiling fan booking.
Fan and light combination units: Lucci, HPM, Heller
Plenty of Darwin bathrooms run a combination unit: exhaust fan, light, sometimes a heat lamp, all in one fitting. Lucci, HPM and Heller all make them and they turn up in newer builds and renovations constantly.
We clean the fan side of these: the grille, the blades and the housing. We do not remove or replace globes, heat lamps or wiring, because that is electrical work and we are a cleaning business.
Inline and ducted fans: Fantech, Vent-Axia, Xpelair
Some setups put the fan body up in the roof space with ducting running to a ceiling grille, rather than putting the fan itself at the ceiling. Fantech is the common name here, with Vent-Axia and Xpelair also in the mix, and it turns up in newer homes, unit blocks and light commercial fitouts.
On these we clean the grille and the fan where it can be reached safely. We do not clean ducting or roof vents, and we do not go into a roof space to get at a fan body. If that is your setup we will tell you what we can and cannot reach before we start, not after.
If your grille is a plain white vent with no fan visible behind it, you probably have an inline or ducted setup. Mention it when you book so we can tell you up front what is cleanable.
Rangehood and kitchen brands: Omega, Westinghouse, Bosch
Kitchen extraction is a different job again, and the brands are appliance brands rather than electrical ones: Omega, Westinghouse, Bosch and similar. Grease rather than lint, so it takes longer.
We clean the fan and the housing on these. We do not degrease filter cassettes, we do not touch charcoal cartridges in recirculating hoods, and we do not clean kitchen ducting. Full detail on rangehood fan cleaning.
Cannot find a brand name anywhere?
Common, and it does not matter. On a lot of units the badge is on the inside of the fascia or on the motor housing where you cannot see it from the floor, and on older fans it has often worn off completely.
Book it as a bathroom, laundry or kitchen fan and we will identify it on site. Nothing about the price or the booking depends on you getting the brand right.

The limits, whatever the brand
- Cleaning only, on every brand. No motors, no wiring, no replacements, no repairs. A fan that hums without spinning or trips the switch needs an electrician, and that is true of a new Panasonic and a thirty-year-old HPM alike.
- We clean the cover, the fan and the housing behind it. We do not clean the duct run through the ceiling or the vent on the roof, on any brand.
- On inline and ducted setups such as Fantech, part of the unit sits in the roof space. We clean what can be reached safely from inside the room and we tell you what we cannot reach before starting.
- We do not degrease rangehood filter cassettes or charcoal cartridges on any kitchen brand.

Do you clean HPM and Clipsal exhaust fans?
Yes. HPM and Clipsal Airflow units are the two we see most often in Darwin bathrooms and laundries. The cover comes off, the cover and blades and housing get cleaned, the lint comes out, and it goes back together. Your first exhaust fan is free with any ceiling fan booking, normally $35.
Can you clean a Fantech inline fan?
We clean the ceiling grille and the fan where it can be reached safely from inside the room. On an inline setup the fan body often sits in the roof space with ducting to the grille, and we do not enter roof spaces or clean ducting. Tell us when you book and we will be straight with you about what is cleanable before we quote it.
Does an older fan cost more to clean than a new one?
No. The price is set by how many fans you have, not their age or brand. An older fan that has never been cleaned takes us longer, because the lint has to come out in one piece rather than in flakes, but that is our time and not your cost.
Do I need to know the brand before booking?
No. Book it as a bathroom, laundry or kitchen fan and we will work out what it is on site. Most badges are hidden behind the fascia or worn off anyway.
Will cleaning it void the warranty on a newer fan?
We cannot speak for any manufacturer's warranty terms, so check your paperwork if the unit is new enough to still be covered. What we can tell you is what we actually do: the cover comes off, surfaces get wiped, the cover goes back on. Nothing is dismantled beyond the cover, no motor is opened and no wiring is touched.
Is an extractor fan the same as an exhaust fan?
Yes. Extractor fan, exhaust fan, vent fan, ceiling vent: same unit, same job, which is pulling damp air out of the room. Australian manuals usually say exhaust fan and plenty of people say extractor fan. See bathroom exhaust fan cleaning.
